2012 commemorative Euro circulation coin competition
In this design of the Euro coin I am showing the benefits that the introduction of the Euro has brought to the countries that have adopted it. During a period of crisis when most of the world’s economies are declining, the euro ensures stability and economic security. For this reason the collectable coin of the 10 years after the introduction of Euro has to be something that reinforces this value.
In this design I have tried to associate the strong foundations of the Euro and its values with the symbol of anchor in a modified version that reminds the euro sign and the anchor. The anchor is considered a symbol of security and well-grounded hope. All the ships from the old times until today, throw anchor in order not to drift away and hit rocks from the waves. Having this in mind I believe that this symbol is very powerful and has similarities with the euro. Like the anchor the euro will remain steady in the “storms” of financial crisis.
The design depicts a combination of the two symbols with a unique way. It was made in such way that if a person is holding the coin from the way that the date is readable then the coin is more likely to remind to that person the euro sign. If the person turns it around then the coin will remind anchor. The coins constantly changing sides so both of symbols will be clearly view and connected. From the base of the anchor a chain of 17 rings is connected symbolizing the 17 countries that have already adopted the euro. The last ring is open in order to accept more rings and so the chain to expand similar to the future expansion of the new members of the euro coin system.
This design is full of optimistic messages, something especially useful in the difficult times that we live. The design can be modified at wish in order to match any extra criteria that the supervisors may have so that it gets issued.
