2012 commemorative euro circulation coin competition
In this design of the euro coin I show the values that the introduction of euro had brought to the countries. During a period of crisis that all the economies are declining the euro wants to ensure security to their citizens. For this reason the collectable coin of the 10 years after the introduction of euro has to be something that will enforce this value.
In this design I want to associate the strong foundations of the euro that will always retain its high value and continue growing with the majestic clonal trees called Old Tjikko. According to the scientists at Umeå University, the tree is 9550 years old and it still growing in European ground. The design depicts the exact form of this tree that is supported by 17 roots as many as the countries that adopted the euro coin. The roots as in every tree are expanding and multiplying as the countries that enter into the euro system. Our tree is old enough to be considered as wise and will cover its citizens and protect them. From the horizon the bright sun rises and with its 10 sun lights as many as the years of the euro will have a more bright path in the future.
This design is full of optimistic messages for a difficult period like this. The design can be modified as wished in order to match the standards or the improvements that the supervisors migh have in ordered to be issued.
